What is STABILO doing about the increasing volume of packaging waste?
We use the absolute minimum amount of transport packaging. Much of the packaging is used in shops as refillable displays. The individual packaging for some pens often fulfils an additional purpose as part of daily office use or at school, being used to store your pens and pencils. Of course, we are constantly on the lookout for possible improvements – we are always trying to save material, for example, and are systematically researching alternative materials.
Is STABILO packaging recyclable?
At STABILO, our aim is to design our packaging so that it can be repurposed. As we generally only use one material in our packaging, they are easily recyclable. The majority of our transport packaging is made from 80% recycled material. We stopped using PVC as early as 2012 when we began using environmentally friendly alternatives.
What should I do with pens once they’ve run out of ink?
Every STABILO pen is a quality product with a long lifespan. And many of them are refillable. However, if your STABILO pen nevertheless reaches the end of its long life, it shouldn’t pose a problem: every part is made of environment-neutral materials and can be disposed of in normal household waste.
Why aren’t all pens refillable?
Many of our pens are refillable, such as our fountain pens, rollerballs, ballpoints and mechanical pencils. But did you know that the STABILO BOSS is also refillable? However, this option is actually very rarely taken advantage of. Pen tips such as those of the STABILO point 88 and STABILO Pen 68 will slowly degenerate after around 1000m of writing. The writing systems in the STABILO worker and STABILO pointVisco must be kept airtight and are thus not refillable.
What do you think about plastics?
You’ll laugh, but: there’s a lot to be said for plastic. It’s currently the safest, best performing and most harmless material that can be used for pens. It makes them distinctively durable and also absolutely safe for children. It’s also becoming easier and easier to recycle. But we promise you: as soon as we discover an even better material, we’ll pioneer that, too.
