Together for a sustainable tomorrow:
STABILO Together is the name of our company-wide sustainability initiative.
We knew that you were interested in sustainability, too. Here you can find out where we stand today and how we will become a climate-neutral company by 2025. And: how we and all our partners and fans out there will fight together to achieve this target. Together.
We’re on it!
Sustainability is always a key issue for us. This includes the raw materials we use, production and transport, and even how we source our electricity. We’ve compiled some of the highlights here:

Our best-selling products, STABILO BOSS and STABILO point, are made using 100% climate neutral electricity.
70% of our products are MADE IN GERMANY.
We process 150,000 kg recycled plastic every year.
The STABILO GREENpoint and STABILO pointball are being produced climate-neutralized (emissions fully compensated)
Our inks are 97.5% water-based.
Our solar panels in Malaysia save 22 tonnes of CO2 per month. That’s equal to the amount of CO2 that 1,760 trees would convert.
100% of the pencils we produce are made from certified wood.
Our ISO certifications cover 12 of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
We are pioneers when it comes to the most important certifications and awards.
For example, in 1998 STABILO became the first writing instruments producer in the world to receive FSC® certification. Today, 100% of the wood in every pencil that leaves our production facility comes from exemplary sustainable forests.
We think in generations – not quarterly periods.
We’ve always had staying power. That’s why we prefer to work towards results that will be effective for years to come, rather than those achieved quickly. This applies to our writing instruments as well as our approach to sustainability.
You’ll laugh, but: there’s a lot to be said for plastic.
Our commitment to progress is based upon three pillars:
Our team for a better tomorrow
Our sustainability initiative will only be successful if we work together. This is expressed not only in the name of the programme, but also in its structure. Because our Together team comprises the brightest minds from all areas of our company. Get to know them!

Environmental protection is firmly anchored in the company’s principles.
The production sites in Weißenburg, Český Krumlov and Johor Bahru are certified according to ISO 14001 environmental management and the Weißenburg site is also certified according to ISO 50001 energy management.
Since as long ago as the beginning of the 1990s, an environmental officer has been watching over how we maintain and optimise environmental protection. Savings have been achieved, for example, through improved furnace efficiency and insulation, new machine drives that use less electricity, or closed water cooling circuits. In addition, the heating system in Weißenburg has been converted to operate using gas, and equipped with a modern control and regulation system.

We produce all self-made wooden pencils from certified wood. Both FSC® and PEFC-certified wood are used for this.
STABILO was the first company in the wooden pencil industry to gain FSC® certification, in 1998. This means that we obtain a proportion of the wood used in pencil manufacture from socially responsible and environmentally aware forestry businesses. Like us, these firms are strictly monitored by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®), an international organisation that promotes the environmentally sensible use of the forests. In recent years, we have succeeded in convincing ever larger numbers of our timber suppliers to switch to FSC® production. FSC® timber may be a little more expensive to buy, but year on year we increase our use of these environmentally more valuable woods.
You’ll laugh, but: there’s a lot to be said for plastic. It’s currently the safest, best performing and most harmless material that can be used for pens. It makes them distinctively durable and also absolutely safe for children. It’s also becoming easier and easier to recycle. But we promise you: as soon as we discover an even better material, we’ll pioneer that, too.
We use the absolute minimum amount of transport packaging. Much of the packaging is used in shops as refillable displays. The individual packaging for some pens often fulfils an additional purpose as part of daily office use or at school, being used to store your pens and pencils. Of course, we are constantly on the lookout for possible improvements – we are always trying to save material, for example, and are systematically researching alternative materials.
At STABILO, our aim is to design our packaging so that it can be repurposed. As we generally only use one material in our packaging, they are easily recyclable. We are gradually converting plastic packaging to a recycled content of at least 30%.
The majority of our transport packaging is made from 80% recycled material. We stopped using PVC as early as 2012 when we began using environmentally friendly alternatives.
Every STABILO pen is a quality product with a long lifespan. And many of them are refillable. However, if your STABILO pen nevertheless reaches the end of its long life, it shouldn’t pose a problem: every part is made of environment-neutral materials and can be disposed of in normal household waste.
Many of our pens are refillable, such as our fountain pens, rollerballs, ballpoints and mechanical pencils. But did you know that the STABILO BOSS is also refillable? However, this option is actually very rarely taken advantage of. Pen tips such as those of the STABILO point 88 and STABILO Pen 68 will slowly degenerate after around 1000m of writing. The writing systems in the STABILO worker and STABILO pointVisco must be kept airtight and are thus not refillable.
Every STABILO pen is a quality product with a long service life and many of them can be refilled. However, if your STABILO has had its day this is no problem: all parts are made of environmentally neutral materials and can be disposed of with household waste.
