The designer: Hannah Rabenstein on hand and brush lettering

"My fascination with letters began just before my design studies in Nuremberg and is still going strong more than 10 years later.

My studies, in which I specialized in typography, allowed me to take this fascination further and expand my knowledge, and I became a true lettering aficionado. I can’t imagine anything better. The multifaceted nature of working with letters makes every project exciting. The world of (hand)writing is virtually boundless and is omnipresent.

I’m very thankful to be living in these special times: craft is a welcome antidote to digitalization. Working with letters unites true craft with fine art - a wonderful combination. And best of all: each creation is unique.

Whatever the task in hand, whatever the aspired solution or whatever surface is to be designed: each project starts with a piece of paper and a good old pencil. There's no way around it!

I’m delighted to be able to share my experience, my story and my knowledge with others. To help and encourage them and — what I love most — to inspire people! Typography, hand lettering, calligraphy, graffiti — whatever type of writing, they’re all unbelievably exciting and I believe it’ll stay that way. Because even if letter types or fonts may at first seem limited: your own imagination isn’t."
