Outline Method

The Outline Method

The general idea behind this method is to write points in an organized pattern using space indention.  The information which is most general begins at the left with each more specific group of facts indented with spaces to the right.

Method

·        Place major points farthest to the left.

·        Indent each more specific point to the right.

·        Levels of importance will be indicated by distance away from the major point.

·        Label the indents with bullets, numbers, or not at all as space relationships will indicate the major/minor points.

The Outline Method is a well-organized system if done right as it reduces editing and is easy to review by turning main points into questions. This method can be used in most situations but is particularly effective when there is enough time between each point to decide how to organize the notes.
